FCE10: Practice Transitions: Navigating Models for Buyer vs. Seller
Program Track: Leadership, Personal and Practice Development
Presenters
Description
The dental industry has transformed as the baby boomer generation of periodontists has entered retirement. This in part, has driven new models that have emerged as transition options for retiring periodontists. This will have a direct impact on the practicing careers of the next generation of practicing periodontists. This program will explore models including traditional associate to owner transitions, sale of practices to a DSO and long-term employment, and entrepreneurial “build to operate” doctor-owned dental organizations. We will discuss factors that differentiate these models and what the risks and compromises are for both sides of the transition equation.Educational Objectives
- Understand the present and future state of the dental industry and how it differs from past generations of transitioning and incoming dentists.
- Explore three models of practice transitions and how these models impact both the seller and the incoming clinician.
- Discuss the long-term impact to the specialty of periodontics when considering these different models.
