Welcome and Opening Remarks / Treatment Planning and Soft Tissue Considerations for Immediate, Early, and Delayed Implant Therapy (special time: 1:00-2:00pm)
Speaker: Lorenzo Tavelli, DDS, MS, PhD
Moderator: Sonia Leziy, DDS
Dental implants have had a tremendous impact on dentistry, improving clinical outcomes and patients’ quality of life. Advancements in knowledge, research, and implant characteristics have contributed to reaching an extremely high rate of osteointegration, making implant therapy a very predictable treatment. The current challenges of dental implantology lie on achieving excellent esthetic outcomes at sites characterized by moderate/severe hard and soft tissue deformities. A thorough presurgical treatment plan is crucial to meet patients’ esthetic expectation. This includes the timing of implant placement, the selection of the type of implant, its three-dimensional position using surgical guides, the reconstruction of lost tissues, and the prosthetic phase. Additionally, soft tissue manipulation and grafting play a key role on the long-term stability of the soft tissue margin, volume, and peri-implant health parameters. The present lecture will illustrate the importance of treatment planning for immediate, early, and delayed implant placement from a soft tissue, esthetic, and patient-centered perspective.

The Role of Lasers in Periodontal Treatment: Exploring the Controversy
Speaker: Kinga Grzech-Leśniak, DMD, MSc, PhD
The gold standard for treating periodontal pockets involves eliminating harmful bacteria through mechanical debridement. However, variations in root architecture complicate effective debridement with traditional tools, and growing antimicrobial resistance poses significant challenges to the success of additional antibacterial treatments like antiseptics and antibiotics. Consequently, Laser therapy is increasingly recognized for its antibacterial properties, safety, and versatility as a means to reduce bacterial load and achieve better results.
Learning Objectives:
• Understand the uses of Lasers during periodontal treatment
• A clear understanding of “clinical” and “microbiological” laser treatment evaluation
• Understand protocols for non-surgical laser assisted periodontal therapy

Augmentation of Ridge Defects with Custom Printed Titanium Mesh
Speaker: Israel Puterman, DMD, MSD
Ridge augmentation of alveolar ridge defects is a procedure that is often necessary in order to have dental implants placed. Although often challenging, minor defects can typically be grafted with resorbable membranes. The larger the defect, and the more vertical augmentation needed, increased stability of the graft/membrane complex becomes more critical to success. This involves the use of non-resorbable membranes or meshes, which inherently have their own challenges due to the need to conform to the surgical site. This lecture will demonstrate the use of customized pre-fabricated 3D printed titanium mesh for augmentation of these advanced ridge deficiencies.
Treatment of Peri-implantitis with Er:YAG Laser
Speaker: Donald Clem, DDS
While dental implants have arguably been considered one of the most significant advances in dental treatment, they are not impervious to biologic complications. While the percentage ranges of implants affected exhibits a wide range, the periodontist is clearly faced with a challenging dilemma. In addition, many periodontists are seeing more cases of peri-implantitis as we see literally hundreds of implant manufacturers come and go, minimally trained clinicians attempting advanced grafting and implant installations with little in the way of convincing data. Along with this clinical challenge, we are faced with multiple treatment recommendations and no universally accepted therapy. This presentation will address many of the problems we faced, review the literature and present options for treatment to manage these cases.

Enhancing Hard and Soft Tissue Regeneration Using Xenogenous Cross-Linked Collagen Matrices/Scaffolds
Speaker: Darko Božić, DMD, MS, PhD
There are numerous collagen membranes on the market that are used for guide bone regeneration. Most of the ones used are either non-crosslinked or cross-linked. The question is which are better and what are the differences? Recently it was noticed that when using cross-linked collagen membranes together with bone regeneration there was also an enhancement in soft tissue thickness and quality. Therefore, it seems that there is a dual effect on both the hard and soft tissues. This lecture will cover the various possibilities and limitations when using OSSIX Volumax as a membrane for both hard and soft tissue augmentation around teeth and implants and the necessity of properly utilizing it to avoid unwanted clinical outcomes.

Thread Design Impact on the Mechanical Stability of Dental Implants
Speaker: Georgios Romanos, DDS, PhD
The successful integration of dental implants in immediate extraction sites is greatly dependent on mechanical stability provided immediately after insertion. The design of the implant threads plays an essential role in the initial mechanical engagement between the implant and the bone. Specifically engineered thread geometries, optimized for immediate extraction contexts, ensure maximal bone-to-implant contact. This heightened engagement is crucial in achieving the immediate stability necessary for effective integration of the implant with the bone matrix.
